Remote Dynamic Reconfiguration of a Multi-FPGA System FiC (Flow-in-Cloud)

Multi-FPGA systems have been receiving a lot of attention as low cost and energy efficient system for Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC). For such purpose, bare-metal multi-FPGA called FiC (Flow-in-Cloud) is under development. In this paper, we introduce the multi FPGA cluster which applied partial reconfiguration (PR) design flow to support online user defined accelerator replacement while executing interconnection network its low-level multiple management software remote PR manager. With manager, can define setup by JSON control from application with cooperation simple tool / library ficmgr on client host REST API service provider ficwww Raspberry Pi 3 (RPi3) each node. According evaluation results prototype 12 nodes, using on-the-fly bitstream compression, time distribution was reduced 1/17 total 21∼57% than compared full configuration bitstream.
